Services at Children's Mercy - Pediatric Care Specialists, Inc.

Patients are seen in our office by scheduled appointment and during  our walk-in hours. We schedule all well child visits and encourage you  to make well check appointments as far in advance as possible. We  also offer scheduled sick appointments so if you prefer to have an  appointment please call and schedule these visits. Every attempt is  made to schedule sick appointments with your primary doctor or nurse practitioner;  however, if your doctor is unavailable, your child may be scheduled  with one of our other physicians or nurse practitioners. We also ask  that you schedule all follow up visits as well as visits for ongoing  medical issues so we can assure continuity of care and that you see your primary provider.

If you are unable to keep a scheduled appointment, we appreciate  your call as soon as possible to allow for another patient to see the  physician. Our providers make every attempt to stay as close to their  schedule as possible. If you are more than fifteen minutes late for a  scheduled appointment, we will ask you to reschedule. This allows for  the next patients to be seen on time. Thank you for your cooperation.

After Hours

Emergencies: Dial 911.

For less serious issues, we encourage you to refer to our website, when practical , before contacting the office.

Please save routine questions (i.e. mild illness, feeding concerns, constipation, rashes, refills and over-the-counter medicine doses) for our regular hours.

For concerns that cannot wait, call our regular office number, 913-906-0900, and a triage nurse from Children's Mercy will answer your call within 60 minutes. If your call has not been returned within 60 minutes, please call again. The nurse will give advice and direct you if further evaluation is necessary . You will be charged $10 for after hours phone calls as we are charged by Children's Mercy for this service.

If your child needs medical treatment after hours, we prefer evaluation at Children's Mercy South located at 5808 W 110th, just west of Nall. We do not recommend visits to walk-in clinics located in pharmacies.

For most injuries (i.e. possible fractures or lacerations requiring sutures) , you may go to your closest emergency room approved by your insurance plan or Children's Mercy South.

Sick Child Visits

8:30-11:30 AM
1:30-4:30   PM

8:30-11:30 AM

Examples of conditions appropriate for walk in hours include, but are not limited to;

  • fever
  • sore throat
  • earache
  • cough and cold symptoms
  • urinary tract infections
  • rashes
  • skin infections
During walk in hours, children are seen on a first come, first served basis, and are seen by the physician or nurse practitioner that is available, not necessarily their primary doctor.

If you prefer to have an appointment, we offer same day sick appointments. We make every effort to schedule appointments for ill children on the day that you call us.   However, for chronic issues such as ongoing abdominal pain, frequent constipation, or behavioral health issues,  please call our office to schedule an appointment, so we may spend the adequate time to properly address your concerns.

If you have a medical emergency during office hours, we will do our best to see your child immediately or refer you to the appropriate facility.

Appointments for multiple children: If you would like us to see more than one child, please schedule each child separately so that an appropriate amount of time will be allocated for treating and diagnosing conditions. This will help us avoid lengthy wait times for everyone.

8:30-11:30 AM
1:30-4:30   PM

We also have scheduled sick visits if you prefer to schedule a visit rather than walk in. All routine well visits, follow up visits, and appointments for ongoing medical issues are on a scheduled basis only.

Well Child Visits

To keep your children healthy, it is important to bring them in for regular checkups. We recommend that you call up to 3 months in advance so that you may choose the date that best fits your needs. The list below is our recommended schedule for Well Child Visits:

1 Week, 1 Month, 2 Months, 4 Months, 6 Months, 9 Months, 12 Months, 15 Months, 18 Months, 2 Years, and then yearly to monitor their growth and maturation as well as to discuss/identify any issues they may have.

If an emergency should arise, please call 911. Emergencies are considered to be those conditions that are life-threatening: loss of consciousness, severe bleeding, seizure, etc. In the case of minor emergencies (lacerations, cuts, mild fractures, sprains), please call our office first for instructions.
